Water as a union element

The Italian design studio Pininfarina Architecture, internationally known for bringing its expertise in automotive design and his aesthetic concept to the field of architecture, has been selected by The People’s Government of Taozhuang Town among over four esteemed architecture firms, to design the masterplan of a new city set to rise in the outskirts of Shanghai, part of the new urbanization processes underway in the Yangtze River Delta.

Water will be the primary element with which to move and interact in the new city. A new network of canals, some of which are navigable, constitutes the infrastructural and landscape connection between the town and the central lake. The city will be characterized by four districts with different housing and urban densities, progressing from east to west: Marina, Lungo Lago, Città Vecchia e Laguna

THE WAY

An urban ecosystem

Blue Loop has been designed in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Yangtze River Delta National Land and Space Development Plan (2019-2035), developing its main themes: water as a necessary impulse to create low-impact cities, the realization of an ecological civilization, and the water towns’ legacy.

The Blue Loop will connect three different integrated ecosystems: Italy-City, a city inspired by Italian urban spaces and lifestyle, an Innovation Valley featuring offices, research centers, and universities and Energia, a hub dedicated to energy and food production.

LAS VEGAS CONVENTION CENTER (LVCC) LOOP

The LVCC Loop system — a three-station transportation system consisting of 1.7 miles of tunnel — was built in approximately one year, using the now-legacy Godot Tunnel Boring Machine. LVCC Loop’s cost was approximately $47 million (firm fixed pricing) for the two tunnels and three stations (two surface and one subsurface). Tunneling occurred during large conventions (>100,000 attendees pre-COVID) with zero road closures and zero disturbances.

LVCC Loop connects the LVCC West Hall with the existing campus (North/Central/South Halls), and reduces a 45-minute cross-campus journey time to approximately two minutes.

LVCC Loop opened in April 2021 for the Mecum Motorcycle Auction and has operated at all subsequent conventions. At SEMA 2021, LVCC Loop transported between 24,000 and 26,000 passengers per day. At CES 2022, LVCC Loop transported between 14,000 and 17,000 passengers per day, with an average ride time of less than two minutes and average wait time of less than 15 seconds.

VEGAS LOOP

Vegas Loop will include LVCC Loop and any future service extensions including those to casinos along the Strip, Harry Reid International Airport, Allegiant Stadium, downtown Las Vegas, and eventually to Los Angeles. Vegas Loop will provide fast and convenient transportation to the Las Vegas community, its visitors, and beyond.

On October 20, 2021, the Clark County Commissioners unanimously approved Vegas Loop, a 29-mile tunnel network connecting 51 stations throughout the resort corridor and beyond, as shown on the map to the right:

Future Stockholm – Järva Stadspark Park

FUTURE STOCKHOLM - JARVA STADPARK

VIDEO COMING SOON

Järva Stadspark is a proposal to transform the green area of Järvafältet in northern Stockholm into a park whit a new city district that allows the park to continue up on top of the new district’s roofs.

Järvafältet is a green area in northwest Stockholm that unites several of the city’s suburbs. It is also one of Stockholm’s green wedges, yet the area is relatively unused and difficult to access. The proposal aims to transform Järvafältet into a central park in northern Stockholm by making it more accessible and providing it with recreation and leisure activities. The proposal also connects the surrounding suburbs Rinkeby and Kista whit a new city district in the eastern part of the area. A district growing from allotment gardens to skyscrapers with connected roof terraces making the city district into a climbable hill. The project was commissioned by the Stockholm Center party.

The Park

The green area today consists of agricultural land that is inaccessible in many places. The area has few natural connections between the suburbs north and south of the area and is difficult to move around in. The proposal aims to make Järvafältet into a city park and make the area accessible to it surrounding districts. The proposal suggests clear pedestrian and bicycle paths between the suburbs north and south of the park and a low-speed road for pedestrians, cyclists, and cars around the park. The local hill Granholmstoppen will be built higher and be equipped with a ski and mountain bike slope on its northern slope. The local stream Igelbäcken will be broaden where it is technically possible and ecologically suitable and provide water for a new lake for swimming and ice skating. The park will contain several sports fields and exercise trails for running, cycling, horseback riding and skiing in the winter. The park will also contain barbecue areas, small public huts as well as an amphitheater with space for large outdoor events such as theater and concerts.

The city

The new city district will contain small to tall buildings in wood with approx. 12,000 new apartments and 140,000 square meters of office and business space connecting the suburbs Rinkeby in the south whit Kista in the north. The local street Rinkebystråket is extended to Kista and becomes the new district’s main street. A new tram line crosses the district from Kista to Rinkeby with terminus in Vällingby. The new district will be a mix of the architecture of the existing buildings around Järvafältet today ranging from small allotments and city townhouses close to the park to skyscrapers in the city center. A green wedge is retained along Igelbäcken and becomes a park through the new district. The new city park is extended up on the roofs terraces via footbridges and will be Stockholm’s highest park promenade with a view of northern Stockholm.

FUTURE SHANGHAI - INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL CENTER

The primary challenge of designing the Shanghai International Financial Center was meeting the goals of three different clients and creating a unified complex. In order to create a ‘vertical campus,’ they followed the desire of the most prominent client to create a community and introduced a bridge tying all the buildings together. By connecting all of the atriums and the lobbies, it allowed the inhabitant to feel they are part of one experience while allowing each separate client to maintain their autonomy. Meanwhile, an 800-seat theater became the catalyst of public spaces at grad and at the heart of the complex

In 2019, the Radbahn vision turned into a feasible pilot project: Reallabor Radbahn. The purpose of the project is to critically review and further develop the original Radbahn concept and to establish a basis for decision-making regarding the construction of the entire Radbahn route.

Together with the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing, paper planes applied for funding through the federal program National Projects of Urban Development. The program supports conceptual and physical projects that demonstrate particularly high urban development quality, promote participation processes and show great innovation potential. The application was successful, as a result of which the federal government and the state of Berlin are funding the Reallabor Radbahn until the end of 2023.
